Prime the Pump of Love

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

When I write, I usually ask for the Holy Spirit to help me. The Holy Spirit guides me on the topic to write. Many times, I don’t know what to write about until after I’ve asked the Holy Spirit. Usually, I pray the Holy Spirit prayer that starts, “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love.”

Today, I thought of writing about “priming the pump.” A long time ago, I read that a hand water pump needs to be primed first before the water flows out.

When I have an idea for writing, then I start brainstorming. Many times, I do a quick internet search to get more ideas.

Today, I learned other meanings for prime the pump.

In urbandictionary.com, I saw the meaning where it means placing money in a tip jar to encourage others to put money in the tip jar.

I saw an article in Investopedia.com entitled Pump Priming that describes pump-priming as stimulating the economy.

I found a YouTube video where Zig Ziglar talks about the similarities of priming a water pump and exerting much effort at the beginning of worthwhile endeavors in our lives.

He asserts that “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly until you can learn to do it well.

When I first read in urbandictionary.com about “covertly setting money in a tip jar before anyone else has left “real” tips in order to ease the flow of tips by making customers feel more at ease with the idea of leaving money,” I thought that single women can apply that idea in their lives.

I thought of the idea that single women can do the things that they would want a future boyfriend or husband to do. Here are some ideas:

  • Give yourself flowers.

  • Visit places that you’ve always dreamed of going to.

  • Visit the beach.

  • Treat yourself out to dinner at nice restaurants.

  • Enjoy a bubble bath.

  • Wear nice clothes that make you feel beautiful.

  • Treat yourself well.

Just as a customer at a store or restaurant will feel more at ease with the idea of leaving money, I believe that a future boyfriend and husband will feel more at ease with giving you flowers, treating you to nice restaurants, and complimenting your beauty when you are comfortable at treating yourself to these gifts of self-love.

How do you think a man who’s interested in you would feel if he gives you flowers, and you object?

When you treat yourself well and give yourself gifts of love, you’re starting the flow of love in your life.

And soon enough…

… love will flow into your life.

Are you priming the pump of love in your life so that it’s flowing?

Have you been holding yourself back from giving yourself flowers, treating yourself out for dinner, fully relaxing at the end of a workweek?

Let yourself feel loved.

You can even start by just saying “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love.”
